San Francisco 49ers Cody Picket

Joe Montana. Steve Young. Those are the two quarterbacks that are synonymous with San Francisco 49ers football. They led the 49ers to five super bowl titles, Montana with four, Young with one. from 1992-1999. However, those days of consistency at the quarterback position are long gone.So far this year the 49ers quarterback position has been a revolving door. Tim Rattay. Alex Smith. Ken Dorsey. All have started a game. Now add Cody Pickett to the list. Rattay started one week then was traded. In the following two games rookie quarterback and #1 overall pick Alex Smith started. Smith injured his knee in his second start and gave way to Ken Dorsey. In Ken Dorsey's first start, he was unable to finish due to an injured ankle. Cody Pickett took over, and will get his first start this week. If your counting at home, that's four different starting quarterbacks in five weeks for the 49ers. The quarterback situation has gotten so bad for the San Francisco 49ers that they brought in Jesse Palmer this week to be the backup quarterback. Yes, it's the same Jesse Palmer known as "The Bachelor." Palmer was drafted out of the University of Florida in the late 4th round by the New York Giants in the 2001 draft. He never saw much action, and in five years has thrown only 3 touchdowns, while throwing 4 interceptions.Cody Pickett will make his first career NFL start this Sunday against the red-hot New York Giants. Pickett was drafted out of the University of Washington with the 16th pick in the 7th round of the 2004 draft by the 49ers. The book on Pickett is that he is poised in the pocket, makes good decisions, but can't throw the deep ball well. It's been a tough season, filled with a bunch of learning experiences for the San Francisco 49ers. This Sunday should be no different when Pickett gets his first lesson.
